Applications for OTN Telemedicine Equipment

The Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) is one of the largest Telemedicine networks in the world. Using videconferencing technologies, healthcare professionals are able to connect with each other from almost anywhere across the province. The Institute accepted applications from organizations interested in receiving OTN Telemedicine equipment for oncology nursing education purposes in February 2010. Many de Souza Institute courses and workshops are offered using this technology, allowing nurses access to education without having to travel.

Organizations applied for OTN equipment funding by sending a letter of intent and completed de Souza application. A review committee scored organizations based on needs, organizational commitment to continuous nursing education, quality improvement in cancer care, and the potential benefits to the community at large. Mobile Telemedicine units were provided to the organizations who received the highest scores on their sponsorship applications.
