Join Abigail Wickson-Griffiths, a PhD student in the School of Nursing, McMaster University on February 8, 2012 from 2:15 pm to 3:30 pm as she discusses Advance Care Planning Programs for Persons with Dementia in Long Term Care Homes: A Review of their Effectiveness and Suitability.


The OTN session/webcast will:



  • Explores the prevalence of people with dementia residing in long-term care homes and the importance of selecting an advance care program that meets their needs

  • Reviews and synthesizes the literature that evaluates advance care planning programs in the long-term care context, in terms of methodological rigour, impact and consideration of the values of residents with dementia and their family members

  • Proposes the MacCourt (2009) Dementia Policy Lens Toolkit as an appropriate framework for evaluating the incorporation of residents with dementia's values in advance care planning programs or interventions
