Review Process

The de Souza Institute Awards Committee is comprised of recognized experts in oncology and palliative care appointed by the de Souza Institute. Committee members have demonstrated research excellence, do not have a conflict of interest with applicants and have demonstrated a breadth of knowledge and maturity of judgment. All applications are reviewed by the Committee, and assessed using a comprehensive scoring sheet.

The scoring criteria include:

  • Type and quality of graduate studies
  • Duration of graduate program
  • Academic performance
  • Achievement in nursing practice and in oncology/palliative care
  • Commitment to enhanced oncology/palliative care during the fellowship and career plan post graduation.
  •

In the interest of transparency and to help to detect potential bias, reviewers of the applications are required to review the de Souza Institute’s conflict of interest policy and declare conflict of interest in relation to any of the reviewed applicants.
