Provincial Standardized Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course (PSCB02SEP12)

Treatment & Delivery of Evidence Based Care

This course is designed to support nurses build their knowledge and skills in Chemotherapy and Biotherapy administration. The program reflects standards identified by a number of national and international bodies, and meets Cancer Care Ontario standards for chemotherapy delivery.

This course is completed over three days; Day 1 and Day 2 are delivered via video conference, and Day 3 is held in-person at a local care setting.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

  1. Provide nurses in Ontario with comprehensive, holistic, standardized chemotherapy and biotherapy education and support patient safety efforts by integrating safety theory within all levels of the curriculum;
  2. Support knowledge translation and application of evidence based practice in systemic therapy;
  3. Integrate Cancer Care Ontario practice recommendations in a comprehensive curriculum.

Course Requirements

To receive a certificate and a 1.0 credit toward Treatment and Delivery of Evidenced Based Care, RNs must complete the following before the course completion date:

  1. Attend day 1 and 2 via videoconference
  2. Participate in all modules and complete all module activities;
  3. All module quizzes;
  4. All course evaluations: pre-evaluation, module and workshop evaluations, and post evaluations;
  5. The course exam with a passing mark of 80% or greater;
  6. Attend the in-person workshop at a local host site.

Time Commitment: Participants will need to invest a minimum of 35 hours in completing the course.  Additional readings and study may be required prior to the exam.  Participants will require 2 hours to complete their final exam.

Registration Details

To enroll in the course, participants must be registered nurses who have developed competency in peripheral and central vascular assess device care and maintenance. In addition, the participants's nursing leadership/organization must support their application to participate.  Participants must also be able to identify an invigilator to monitor their writing of the final exam.

Please be aware, your manager and invigilator will be contacted by email to verify their support. Verification is mandatory for registration.

There is no cost to the course, but $100 cheque deposit is required 5 business days before the start of the course.  As per our Cancellation Policy, you will be removed from the course if we do not receive your cheque deposit in time.
