Disease prevention is an important domain along the cancer care continuum and relevant to all areas of nursing practice. This course will provide: the foundational concepts of health promotion, types of prevention, population based cancer screening, survivorship and health promotion, an introduction to complementary and alternative therapy, an overview of behavioral change theory, and motivational interviewing theory and practice. Health promotion and prevention are important knowledge and practice standards in: the College of Nurses standards of practice, the Community Health Nurses Standards of Practice, and the Canadian Association of Nurses in Oncology. The course is comprised of six eLearning modules. Each eLearning module will take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete. With required readings, completing activities, and posting to the discussion forum, the estimated minimum weekly commitment time is 2-3 hours a week.
