Wellspring Workshop: Care for the Professional Caregiver (0.25 credits)

Overview


This program is offered by the Wellspring Cancer Support Foundation. It is 5 weeks long, with a one-day in person workshop followed by 4 weeks online discussion. The one-day workshop is based on the understanding that many nurses experience vicarious trauma, loss, and other occupational stressors in the course of their daily patient care responsibilities, and that these can have a combined and adverse effect on their professional and personal well-being.  This program will be of interest to nurses who wish to explore and identify self-care strategies.


Objectives


The Care for the Professional Caregivers program aims to:



  • Educate professionals about the ingredients of burn-out, and how the phenomenon of burn-out can impact quality of patient care

  • Reduce the experience of burn-out for seasoned professionals, and prevent burn-out for those newer to the profession

  • Teach practical coping strategies designed for the workplace that can be used to mitigate the impact of a stressful work environment

  • Enhance professional and personal well-being on a long-term basis through discussion and practice of accessible and evidence-based self-care strategies.
